HOW DO YOU PLUG THE HOLE AFTER HARVESTING THE SAP?
You should always plug the hole in which the hose was inserted after harvesting the sap so that the tree can heal and to protect it from parasites. There are various ways of doing this:
TECHNIQUES TO HELP THE BIRCH TREE HEAL:
- You can cut a piece of wood with a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the hole and insert it into the hole.
- You can also insert a plug into the hole with the help of a hammer if needed.
Ideally, the wooden plug or cut-out should be coated in a natural healing substance used in horticulture.
If you do not have a special healing substance, clay can also be used as a healing paste.
