WHERE CAN YOU FIND BIRCH TREES?

So you want to extract birch water...but there’s a problem! You don’t know what a birch tree looks like although you almost definitely walk past them on your walks through the forest. To make sure you stop missing them, here are a few handy tips.

HOW CAN YOU RECOGNISE A BIRCH TREE?

APPEARANCE:

Although there are different types of birch tree, the European white birch is the most common in France. It is known for its smooth, shiny, white bark, its light green leaves in spring and its yellow leaves in autumn.

Size:

Depending on the variety, birch trees can grow to between 15 and 20 metres tall. Their growth slows down over the years, since birch trees have a relatively short life span. In our climate, they rarely last longer than 60 years.

In nature:

Birch wood absorbs and evaporates large quantities of water. They rarely grow in dry regions since they need lots of water and light. In France, birch trees are often found in forests across the country. They are also sometimes planted decoratively or used to line the roadside. However, if you plan to extract birch water from trees on land which doesn’t belong to you, make sure you have the necessary authorisation in advance.

Where can I buy them?

You can buy birch trees at garden centres, stores selling health food products or online via the UÏ website.
