WHERE DO YOU MAKE THE HOLE IN THE BIRCH TREE?

Some people make a hole in the tree at the same height as themselves, and that’s OK! However, there is an ideal height.

Indeed, although you can make a hole in any part of the birch trunk, it is advisable to make one around one metre above ground level to prevent animals spoiling the installation.

HOW DO YOU MAKE A HOLE IN THE BIRCH TREE?

What do you use?

First and foremost, it is important to disinfect your equipment to avoid contaminating the tree. Choose the tree in winter, well before the buds start to appear. Use a drill bit to make a hole in the birch trunk. Once the hole is made, insert the hose and the birch water will start to run into the bucket.

Result:

Over 5l of water per day can be obtained from a good tree. It is advisable to protect the birch water from heat and light. How deep should the hole in the birch tree be?

Depth:

Make a hole around 3cm deep.

Angle:

The hole should be made at a right angle to the tree so that it is not oval in shape. In addition, the angle of the cut should be between 5° and 10° towards the outside (if you are using a drill, it is advisable to do it slowly). It is important to clean the hole and make sure that there is no sawdust inside it.

I CAN’T PIERCE THE BARK, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

If you can’t pierce the bark, check your equipment. There may be a problem with your drill bit or the battery power may be too low. The bark usually pierces quite easily.
